Pokemon GO App Back On Top During Halloween Event

    pokemon go app

Pokemon GO’s first seasonal event for Halloween is getting players excited again, according to data from market intelligence firm, Sensor Tower.

The Pokemon GO app is now back on top of the Apple App Store top-grossing charts in the United States. Previously, Pokemon GO dropped all the way to number 10.

What’s notable is that the Halloween update does not introduce any new game mechanics, but rather hands more candy, and spawns more spooky Pokemon like Gastly and Cubone.

Pokemon GO was the top grossing game since launch back in July, but faces fierce competition from the likes of Game of War and Mobile Strike for top spot in October

Earn Twice The Candy On Double Candy Halloween!

    Double Candy Halloween

Halloween is fast approaching and Niantic are about to offer a great treat to trainers worldwide. From tomorrow until November 1st, earn double the candy on Double Candy Halloween!

See official Niantic announcement below –

    “Trick-or-Treat, Trainers!

It’s Halloween season and we have a treat for you! From October 26th to November 1st, you’ll earn double the amount of Candy every time you catch, hatch and transfer Pokémon! Don’t forget your Buddy Pokémon, because they will help you earn Candy four times as fast.

    Happy Halloween!”

While this isn’t any kind of amazing update to the core game, no one is going to say no to extra candy, right? I know I won’t. With X4 candy for buddy Pokemon those Gyarados and Charizards are now closer than ever. Additionally, It looks like anyone low on “spooky” Pokemon the likes of Gastly, Hypno, Gengar and others is in luck, as their spawn rate should improve during this period.

Pokemon GO Sun and Moon Connection Likely In The Future

    pokemon go sun and moon

Junichi Masuda, Pokemon series producer and director shed some light on the possibility of connecting Pokemon GO and Sun and Moon, and maybe other core games from the Pokemon series in an interview with GameInformer.

POKEMON GO SUN AND MOON CONNECTION

Masuda acknowledged that Pokemon GO’s huge success has brought him and others to consider connecting the hit augmented reality game with core games from the series –

“We want people who picked up Pokémon and learned about it through Pokémon Go to also play Sun and Moon and the main series games. We want to have a kind of way to connect the two, or have a way for people who enjoyed one to enjoy some of their progress in the other. But that will definitely come down the road.“

The last statement suggests it will take a while before it becomes a reality, but it certainly looks like it is a feature we can already look forward to.

    CAN DITTO BE FOUND?

When asked if he himself plays Pokemon GO or if he knows how to find Ditto, Masuda replied:

“[laughs] Definitely I’m playing the game. Actually, I worked on the game as well, and one of the things that I helped develop was the ball-throwing mechanic, the physics and everything like that. I did a lot of detail work on that. I think I need to be good at it, as one of the people who created it! Of course, I’m only level 24, so I might be quite low level compared to some other people, but yes, both of us are playing it. In terms of Ditto, we’ve got some ideas – that’s really all I can say.”

Is Yungoos/Gumshoos modeled after Donald Trump?

“It’s a very American-centric question I think, and actually a lot of people sent me pokemon go and sun and mooncomparison photos on Twitter pointing out the resemblance. But we had started the design of this Pokémon a long time back, and we didn’t have any intention to make it look like Donald Trump.”

We can certainly see the resemblance, but it’s most likely just a rare coincidence. Pretty sure you can find people who look like any other Pokemon if you look hard enough.

What do you think of a possible connection between Pokemon GO and core Pokemon games? Let us know in the comments!

    Pokemon GO Plus Update

Niantic just announced a new Pokemon GO Plus update. See the full official announcement below –

“Trainers who search for Pokémon in the real world using go plus updatethe Pokémon GO Plus accessory can now select one of multiple notification modes. Scanning for both PokéStops or Pokémon simultaneously still remains the default setting if you want to try to catch as many Pokémon and collect as many Poké Balls as possible. However, you can also individually enable or disable each of these notifications based on your preference. In addition, when you are out with your Buddy Pokémon you can choose to not receive notifications, and just record the distance of your walks. Lastly, the Pokémon GO Plus accessory will remain paired with the Pokémon GO app if you choose to use the app while interacting with Pokémon or Gyms.”

while these features are all welcome additions, we still feels that the device lacks some core features. Among those are the ability to use better Poke Balls and getting more than one chance to catch a Pokemon.

Reaching Level 40 Gets You A Ban From Gyms?

    ban from gyms

It seems that reaching the pinnacle of Pokemon GO mastery does the trainer a huge disservice. Several level 39-40 players have reported that reaching the end-game may get you a ban from Gyms.

It is yet unclear how widespread the issue is, but then, there aren’t many level 39-40 players to go around. Despite numerous emails to Niantic, there hasn’t been a clear response by the developer on this matter.

One level 40 player, Jimmie Pitts reported the following on reddit

“So I became level 40 just about a week ago, and right around that time I started getting a weird gym error. It disabled all interactions with gyms, can’t check pokemon in them, can’t do anything gym related at all! Thought it would go away and it didn’t. The weird part is other top players around the world also have this glitch. The one and only jdero, and a guy in Europe who hit 40 last night, along with 2 other 39-40 players im my city who actually have the glitch as well. We’ve tried everything as far as logging in on different devices and service providers and NOTHING works. Sent in just about a million emails to niantic, obviously no answer from them…..so yea pretty crazy you reach the end and this is what happens….”

Pokemon GO Update Decreases Evolution Animation Time

    evolution animation time

Niantic Labs have been building up the latest Pokemon GO update with some nice features that we covered during the last week, like a new Catch Bonus and revamped Gym Training. However, one of the most welcome features, only mentioned in the official announcement that the update is rolling out, is that it decreases evolution animation time!

    Full official announcement –

    Trainers,

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.41.2 for Android and 1.11.2 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

    • Catch Bonus: Trainers can earn a catch bonus for a Pokémon type as they catch more of a specific type.
    • Updated Gym Training: Trainers can now bring six Pokémon to battle at friendly Gyms. The CP of the Pokémon you are battling may be temporarily adjusted lower for your training session.
    • Egg & Incubator Screens: These will periodically update the distance walked without the Trainer needing to close and reopen the screen.
    • Fixed several audio issues.
    • Decreased the evolution animation time.
    • Minor fixes

We previously covered how to Skip Egg Hatching Animation, hoping that a similar feature would be added to the Evolution Animation. While that is still not the case, faster evolution animation is still a big deal, especially for power leveling with Lucky Egg evolutions. Currently, around 60-70 evolutions are possible in the 30 minute time frame the lucky egg nets you. As soon as we have it in our hands, we’ll update on how many evolutions you can expect with the update.

    [UPDATE]

We have the update installed on a Nexus 6P. We timed the evolution animation at ~19s.

That’s ~94 evolutions at an optimal rate. In a real world environment, adding approximately 3 seconds to each evolution, you should be able to get around 75-85 evolutions, depending on your device, reflexes and focus 🙂

What do you think about the new update? Let us know in the comments!

Better Pokemon GO Gym Training Coming In New Update

    pokemon go gym training

Fresh off the heels of yesterday’s announcement that there will be a new Capture Bonus feature added in an upcoming update, Niantic reveal that Pokemon GO Gym training is about to become much easier for new and experienced trainers alike. Official announcement below –

    “Trainers,

As we continue to make improvements to Pokémon GO, we have made an enhancement to the Gym experience for Trainers of all levels. In an upcoming version of Pokémon GO, when training at a friendly Gym, Trainers will be able to bring six Pokémon to battle instead of one. In addition, the CP of the Pokémon you are training against may be temporarily adjusted lower during your training session to generally match your Pokémon’s battle capabilities.

    pokemon go gym training

No matter what your level, you can now have an impact on your team’s Gym. Walk with your Buddy Pokémon to that nearby landmark and show your Team Leader that you can battle with the best!”

I always wondered why you could attack Gyms with six Pokemon, yet were limited to just the one when leveling up a Gym. It seems that this will soon be rectified, slowly building a more polished Pokemon GO experience.

There’s still a long way to go, and we can’t express how much we’d love to finally get a worldwide release for the new Nearby Tracker, but at least we’re getting more features that actually enhance game-play, so there’s a lot to look forward to.

New Pokemon Capture Bonus Increases The Odds Of Catching Them

    Pokemon Capture Bonus

Niantic Labs have announced a new upcoming update that grants a Pokemon capture bonus to specific type Pokemon, based on rewards. See official announcement below –

    “Trainers,

We want to give you a sneak peek of a feature coming soon to Pokémon GO. We are adding a new feature which grants a catch bonus when you earn medals based on catching certain types of Pokémon (Kindler, Psychic, Gardener, etc.). These new bonuses will give you a better chance of capturing Pokémon with a related type. For example, as you reach a higher tier for the Kindler Medal, your bonus to catch Fire-type Pokémon such as Charmander, Vulpix and Ponyta increases.

Trainers can work their way to a new tier by catching many Pokémon of the same type. If a Pokémon has multiple types, your bonus will be the average of your bonuses for each type. For example, Pidgey is both Normal and Flying type. Your bonus in this case would be the average of your Normal-type and Flying-type bonuses.

Look forward to this new feature coming soon!”

The last time Niantic officially announced a major feature that is coming soon, it was the Buddy Pokemon system, and it was launched within a week of the announcement. We expect the Capture Bonus feature to be no different.

Additionally, the announcement did not mention stats being reset for trainers, so it is safe to assume that any reward you have earned so far, will count towards your Capture Bonus.

As always, we will have an in depth guide of the feature as soon as the update goes live.

    Sponsored Pokestops Popping Up Worldwide

    sponsored pokestops

In a bid to further monetize Pokemon GO, Niantic Labs are adding more sponsored Pokestops to the augmented reality game.

So far, Pokemon GO was monetized with in-game purchases of game items and a relatively small number of sponsored Pokestops in Japan, as witnessed by some reddit users and some reporters.

“They’ve been showing as Sponsored in Japan for a while. McDonalds was first, and I know SoftBank was also added in. I noticed that in Ingress there was a portal at my local SoftBank, but it wasn’t a stop/gym in Go until quite a while later, I assume because they had to renegotiate the contract.” TheSilphRoad

    Another Reddit user added –

“In Tokyo, I’ve seen McDonald’s, Softbank, Y! Mobil, Toho cinema.”

    sponsored pokestops
    McPokestop – Japan / Reuters

John Hanke, Niantic Labs’ CEO mentioned before that the company is “considering making a move towards more sponsored content”.

It seems that move has come, as people around the world are running into more and more sponsored Pokestops, where there were regular Pokestops before.

Pokemon GO Gets Improvements To Pokemon GO Plus And Tracking In New Version

    pokemon go version 0.39.0

Pokemon GO version 0.39.0 (Android) and 1.9.0 (iOS) is rolling out today and it brings some minor tweaks to the game.

Here’s a quick rundown of the main new features in the latest version from Niantic –

    • Track Capture Location: The location where a Pokémon was caught will now be displayed on their information screen.
This will help in recognizing nest locations for specific Pokemon.
    • Pokémon GO Plus and Incense: Trainers can attempt to capture Pokémon they encounter from using Incense with the Pokémon GO Plus accessory.
We don’t know why this feature wasn’t included upon release of the Plus device, but better late than never.
    • Minor bug fixes

These are definitely welcome additions, and it seems like Niantic are in the process of releasing game improving tweaks at a steady rate. This is in stark contrast to the first couple of months, where we had more features taken out of the game than ones that were added.

If you still didn’t get a chance, you can hear Niantic labs CEO, John Hanke, discuss the future of Pokemon GO, including Trainer Battles, Pokestop Submissions and more.

Can Regional Pokemon Be Hatched? Niantic CEO, John Hanke With The Verdict

    can regional pokemon be hatched

Ever since Pokemon GO’s launch, the question of “Can regional Pokemon be hatched from eggs?” was on everyone’s mind. After dodging the question for a few months, Niantic Labs’ CEO, John Hanke, finally gave us a conclusive answer via his twitter account –

Kelly Roberts, a big Pokemon GO fan asked if regional Pokemon can hatch outside their region, to which John replied –

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as there is obviously a reason those who caught all Pokemon (by legal means), traveled the world to do so. Nonetheless, confirmation from the source itself is what we’re always here for, and John’s confirmation certainly puts a stamp on the regional Pokemon debate.
